When the children were young we purchased this amazing CD for the car – Snoopy’s Travelin’ Tunes. (I highly recommend it for any of you with little ones.) We would play it every time we set out for a new adventure. The kids memorized the opening dialog between Lucy and Linus about travelin’ out on the country road and the importance of never leaving home without your trusty blanket. Then the dialog leads into the first song, the Peanuts’ version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”

I couldn’t imagine starting my Camino without my trusty blanket (actually pillow) and listening to the song. As I listened today, tears welled up in my eyes as the little girl sings –

I am so used to havin’ you around,
You were always there, when I was down,
I’ll tell you now, you are my best friend.
Every place I go, I will think of you,
Every song I sing, I sing for you.
When I come back, we’ll do it all again.
So hug me and stay with me,
Tell me that you’ll wait for me,
Hold me like we will never be apart!
Cause I am leaving on a jet plane,
Don’t know when I will be back again.
Oh,  how I hate to go!
Now the time has come to leave you,
One more time, let me hug you.
Close your eyes and I’ll be on my way.

Before this song was just part of a fun routine, today it felt like I was saying goodbye to Madeline. Letting her know that I love her and I am setting her free. I am not sure what my journey holds but I know that I will be ok if there are no grand gestures from Madeline.  It is ok if she “stays home.” And as much I hate letting go, I need to.
